About IIT Kanpur
IIT Kanpur is one of the first-generation Indian Institutes of Technology, set up by the Government of India in 1959 at Kalyanpur, Kanpur.
The institute was established in 1959 and first worked from the premises of the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute with 100 students. The Uttar Pradesh government gave land in 1960, and the institute moved to its present campus by March 1963. It combines teaching with fundamental and applied research.
